Meet the Team - Johan du Plooy
Updated: Jun 5, 2018
There is perhaps no more fitting way to introduce the 2017 Gallowglass blog, than by profiling our own quiet man, the understated and indefatigable Johan du Plooy.
Originally from Cape Town in South Africa, he came to settle in London 2000, and joined Gallowglass Security in 2005.
As with many who have prospered, and continue to do so, Johan is a graduate following years of honing his skills and leadership ability in the field. Since then he has distinguished himself on all manner of event security and man guarding assignments, on account of his intelligence, calmness under pressure, and professionalism.
2012 saw the creation of our 24-hour duty controller mobile response team, which was created in anticipation of client demand, as well as enabling us to become a fully-fledged 24/7/365 operation. Following a fiercely competitive selection process one candidate emerged beyond many fine others, namely Johan.
As the head of duty controller team he has played an instrumental role in widening the scope of it to include crisis management, patrols, key holding and every possible exigency that could arise. Additionally, the ease of his transition into this management role has been exhibited by his clear understanding and grasp of quality management control systems together with maintaining them to the highest possible standards.
A fine athlete in his youth, he has distinguished himself as utility back on the rugby pitch, however, his crowning glory came in gymnastics when he secured South African colours. Coming from the same rugby milieu as our other fabulous South African émigrés, it has been a difficult year for him given the travails of South African rugby. However, he does tell us that South African rugby luminary Percy Montgomery was only able to break into his beloved Stormers team, following his departure for London, we are not quite so sure!
Next on the horizon for Johan, Tying the knot! Following another Gallowglass romance blossoming, this time at Maison de Monaco during the 2012 London Olympics, Johan and his beloved Lucy are now engaged, and we await confirmation of the big day!
